ROUTES (2001)
Beyond the Pale's debut CD "Routes" is an exciting and unique set of 12
recordings which will surprise and delight listeners of all ages and tastes.
The originals recorded here range from rousing klezmer- and
Romanian-influenced compositions to more daring hybrids touching on reggae,
roots music, Balkan music, and high-powered acoustic funk. In their unique
interpretations of Yiddish vocal music the group has unearthed some
little-known gems, recorded here for the first time by a contemporary
klezmer ensemble and delivered with humour and poignance. Even in their more
orthodox moments the group punctuates their deep understanding of the
elegance and mystery in traditional klezmer melodies with a refined sense of
their own musical identity.
Beyond the Pale's Routes heralds the arrival of
a significant new presence in the Canadian klezmer, folk and world music
scenes. Produced by multi-Juno winner Danny Greenspoon, and including
special guests Dave Wall (vocals), Rick Lazar (percussion), Josh Engel
(guitar), and Dan Goldman (guitar)

CONSENSUS (2004)
Recorded live in concert in January 2004, Beyond the Pale's long-awaited
second CD "Consensus" features over an hour of exciting acoustic roots
music. Combining traditional influences with a progressive impulse, the
band's sound has been refined and expanded in new directions on this new CD.
The CD's fifteen tracks encompass a wide range of musical moods and styles,
including Klezmer, Yiddish, Romanian, and Balkan music, as well as unique
genre-bending original compositions. Each of the members takes a turn in
the musical spotlight, and the group's characteristically tight interplay
and musical virtuosity are abundantly displayed in this thrilling new CD.
With special guest performances by Josh Dolgin (vocals/piano) and Yeva
Medevedyuk (vocals).
